During construction of the entire structure 134,000m3 of concrete was used and it required 13,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement. Its concrete columns reach up to 80 feet high, some of which had to be carefully placed to allow a horse-drawn narrow boat to pass underneath without fouling towropes.
