Suez Canal lays out expansion plans

THE Suez Canal Authority has laid out its plans to expand the waterway in the wake of the Ever Given casualty in 2021. An initial phase will see a double channel extended through the Small Bitter Lake between 122 km to 132 km markers. This would increase vessel capacity by an additional six ships by allowing two-way traffic for a further 10 km. Dredging of 45m cu m will facilitate the use of two 292 m wide channels.
