Izar presents two innovative concepts for offshore aquaculture

The Spanish state-run Izar Fene shipyard in Ferrol, Northern Spain has presented plans for two new innovative offshore aquaculture vessels: the Integral Offshore Aquaculture ship and the Tuna Offshore Unit. The Integral Offshore Aquaculture ship is ahuge semi-submersible ship which Izar have presented as a unit capable of restocking the sea with different species of fish. The preliminary design shows a twin-hulled vessel with an overall length of 190 metres and a beam of 56 metres. The integral part of the vessel is an internal moonpool for holding the fish which is divided into three sections and has a total overall volume of 95,000 m~3. By simply unfolding independent rigid nets below the moonpool this volume can be increased to 195,000 m~3.
