China’s se prices may remain steady in near term

China’s selenium prices are likely to hold steady in the near term in response to stable demand and suppliers’ resistance to lower prices because of firm production and import costs, market participants said. Downstream manganese flake producers are keeping out- put stable and have no plans to raise production because of subdued demand from stainless steel mills and narrow profit margins. Operating rates are at around 70pc, with the coun- try currently producing 100,000-110,000 t/month of flake.
