BY ADOPTING A BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE AND ADDRESSING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS OTHER MANAGERS, LIBRARIANS CAN BETTER ALIGN THEIR SERVICES WITH THE LANGUAGE AND VALUES OF THEIR ORGANIZATION. Rapid changes in technology and the way organizations conduct business are propelling librarians and informational professionals forward, into a world where they must adopt new ways of thinking about and managing the information over which they are stewards. This changing world presents many new opportunities for librarians. To take full advantage of these opportunities, however, we must align ourselves with the language and values of the community we serve. It is not enough to understand the needs of our clients—we must also understand our organizations.
