Worldsteel sees demand contracting 6.4pc in 2020

International steel organisation Worldsteel expects steel demand to contract by 6.4pc this year to 1.65bn t, before rebounding by 3.8pc over 2021 to 1.71bn t, it said in its short-range outlook today. Chinese steel demand will rise by 1pc this year, despite gross domestic product declining by 6.8pc in February. Industrial production and automotive activity also slipped by 8.4pc and 44.6pc, respectively, in the first quarter.
