Eighteen brinjal genotypes were studied for genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance for different morphological and yield contributing characters. The study revealed existence of considerable amount of genetic variability for all the characters except plant canopy. The number of fruits per plant exhibited highest values of Genetic Coefficient of Variance (GCV) and Phenotypic Coefficient of Variance (PCV) followed by fruit yield, fruit length, number of branches per plant, average fruitweight, however fruit width and plant height showed moderate GCV and PCV. High heritability values were observed for fruit yield, number of fruits/plant, fruit length and average fruit weight, interfering fruit yield and its related traits are reliable parameters for enhancing yield in brinjal. High values of heritability coupled with high genetic were obseived for average fruit weight, number of fruits per plant, fruit yield, number of branches per plant and fruit length indicating that they can be used directly for selection in improvement of brinjal.
