Practices to promote medical safety and infection control in clinical laboratories have changed due to the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 （COVID-19） pandemic in various ways. Practical measures to introduce real-time-polymerase chain reaction（RT-PCR） for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2（SARS-CoV-2） and infection control against potentially positive nasopharyngeal swab and saliva samples during the COVID-19 pandemic are discussed. Many patients come to physiological examination rooms and blood collection rooms. Maintaining medical safety and concomitantly implementing appropriate effective infection controls in these rooms are discussed. Effective utilization of newly introduced clinical testing related to genes is mandatory in the post-corona world. The appropriate use of laboratory testing with simultaneous attention to medical safety and infection control in clinical laboratories will play an important role in the future progression of medical laboratories.
