On-farm trials were carried out during 2008-09 and 2009-10 to assess the effect of improved production technology on productivity and profitability of Isabgol (Plantago ovata) under Internal Drainage Dry Zone (IIA) of Rajasthan. Improved production technology of Isabgol produced 28.89 and 20.9% higher mean grain yield over farmers' practice during 2008-09 and 2010-11. Improved production technology gave higher net returns (Rs. 43143 and 48395/ha) with higher benefit ratio (2.95 and 3.20) compared to farmers' practice (Rs. 31429 and 38668/ha and 2.35 and 2.79) during the years 2008-09 and 2010-11. The mean technology gap of 5.28 q/ha was recorded in the OFT trials over potential yield, whereas maximum technology gap (6.67 q/ha) was recorded in the year 2008-09 as compared to the year 2010-11 (3.89 q/ha). Minimum value of technology index (21.61%) was observed in the year 2010-11 and higher (37.05%) in the year 2008-09 and average value was 29.33%.
