Process for post treatment of a cast part, especially a motor vehicle internal combustion engine, e.g. metallurgical melt repair of casting defects (7) involving production of a melt bath in the defect region by a laser, to which additional material (3) can be added. The laser has a restricted working zone in the defect region, of width less than 0.5 mm and/or the cooled material added to the working zone has a grain size of less than 5 micron. The added material can be a solder containing more than 13% Si, so that dendrites are formed on cooling the molten bath.
