Field experiments were conducted in Egypt, during 1997-98 and 1998-99 to investigate the effect of some weed control treatments and irrigation regimes on lentil seed yield and associated weeds. Irrigation regimes included: control, one irrigation 20days after sowing (DAS; first irrigation); first irrigation + irrigation at 50% field capacity; and first irrigation + irrigation at 75% field capacity. weed control treatments included: unweeded control; hand weeding twice (at 30 and 60 DAS); application of Gesagard 80% (prometryn) at 1.0 kg/feddan; and application of Sencor 70% (metribuzin) at 120 g/feddan. Irrigation at 75 or 50% field capacity significantly increased seed yield but also increased weed infestation compared to the control. Hand weeding twice gave the best weed control and resulted in the highest seed yield, followed by prometryn.
