摘要

Evaluation of underground water was undertaken to assess the quality of ground water and its effect on physical and chemical properties of soils of Sri Madhopur Panchayat Samiti. One hundred irrigation water samples along with their corresponding one hundred surface soil samples were collected from different villages of Sri Madhopur Panchayat Samiti. The irrigation water samples were analyzed for various chemical properties and soil samples were analyzed for physical and physio-chemical properties. The irrigation water was classified into four groups on the basis of salinity (EC), sodicity (SAR) and alkalinity (RSC). Besides this, the quality of irrigation water was also categorized on the basis of the EC, SAR and RSC into seven classes viz., good, marginally saline, saline, high SAR saline, marginally alkali, alkali and highly alkali waters and it was found that majority of irrigation water of the study area was not suitable for irrigation purposes. The majority of soils of the Sri Madhopur Panchayat Samiti was loamy sand in nature and their texture varied from loamy sand, sand and sandy loam, whereas most of the soils of the study area were found under highly alkaline in nature. According to the classification suggested by Sehgal et al. (1987) majority of the soils (47%) of the study area were found under the class Vs.st (Very slight salinity and strong alkalinity), (33%) Vs.M (Very slight salinity and moderate alkalinity) and (20%) under Vs.S (Very slight salinity and slight to negligible alkalinity). Correlation between irrigation water and soil properties was also computed.
