FOR ALL THE exploration and production successes in Africa over the past two decades, there is still significant scope for further exploration. This applies to the leading oil producers, such as Angola, Libya, Algeria and Nigeria, as it does to less developed oil producing countries, such as Uganda and Kenya in East Africa. If you take the East African Rift system, for example - an area of over 2.3mn sq km which extends through Sudan, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique, less than 200 wells have been drilled to date (Source: Africa Oil).
