摘要

The town of Cobalt, in northern Ontario, is almost as far removed as one can get from headlines today, but in 1906 it appeared prominently in newspapers. It was in that year that rich silver deposits, the largest anywhere yet found, were stumbled upon in what was then trackless wilderness. A silver rush of unprecedented proportions followed this discovery. Initially, settlement and development was centered exclusively upon Cobalt and the initial silver vein, but in the coming years prospectors spread out into the surrounding forests in search of new, untapped veins. Numerous mining camps soon appeared among the trees and rocks. One of the larger was along the shores of Kerr Lake.
