7-Eleven to Acquire U.S. Convenience Store Speedway

On August 3, 2020, 7-Eleven, the U.S.-based convenience store giant, entered into an agreement with U.S.-based Marathon Petroleum to acquire the shares and other interests of the companies operating the convenience store and fuel retail businesses of Marathon Petroleum mainly under the Speedway brand, excluding certain fuel retail operations with direct dealers and certain other businesses. The US$ 21-billion acquisition of the shares and other interests is planned to be completed by March 2021 after the satisfaction of the conditions precedent to close the transaction, including the completion of procedures under U.S. antitrust laws.
