Last Nov., Shell's subsidiary, Shell Singapore, pledged to reduce Scope 1 GHG emissions, which come directly from plant operations, and Scope 2 GHG emissions, which are from indirectly-owned assets, such as electricity purchased from a provider, by 33% in the next 10 years at its 500K-b/d Pulau Bukom refinery. In order to achieve this goal, the company has signed an MoU with Singaporean government agency JTC to study the potential for a solar farm on the island that will have 72 MW peak capacity, which will cut CO2 emissions by 37K mt/y. Meanwhile, Shell will cut the capacity of its Pulau Bukom refinery by 200K b/d by July.
