Russian steelmaker NLMK grows Q1 output but sales outside group fall

Russian mining and steel company NLMK said April 12 it grew first quarter steel output having ramped up to full capacity steelmaking equipment after overhauls at its flagship Novolipetsk Iron and Steel Works in western Russia, but sales declined as the company consumed more of the slabs it produced internally. In the January-March quarter, NLMK’s steel output grew to 4.4 million mt, up 12% on the quarter and 4% on the year, with a post-overhaul gain in the productivity of steelmaking furnaces at Novolipetsk.
