US plate prices rise again; March order books tight

Prices for carbon steel plate in the United States strengthened for the third consecutive week after eager buyers accepted mills’ price increases in exchange for booking material for March shipment. Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel cut-to-length plate carbon grade, fob mill US climbed to $51.50 per hundredweight ($1,030 per short ton) on Friday February 5 from $51 per cwt on January 29. The assessment is up 106% since descending to its 2020 low of $25 per cwt in August.
