摘要

The Japanese government today approved plans to allow utility TEPCO to dispose of 1.23 million tons of water contaminated with the radioactive hydrogen isotope tritium from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, by releasing it into the sea. Although backed by international partners, the decision threatens to undermine Japanese public trust in nuclear power, as the country seeks to restart its nuclear facilities as it pushes forwards with efforts to reach net zero by 2050.
