Baowu Steel Group starts construction of silicon steel project

On December 8, China's Baowu Steel Group began construction of the silicon steel project at the Baoshan Iron and Steel in Shanghai, Metal Expert learned from the company's statement. The downward trend in greenhouse gas emissions drives the growth in demand for electrical vehicles that increases demand for non-grain-oriented steel (NGO steel). However, existing capacity will not be able to meet the anticipated demand. Thus, Baowu Steel, being a large electrical steel producer, has decided to invest in construction of the new complex to manufacture 500,000 tpy of NGO steel.
