Forgemasters fined over oxygen blaze

Steelmaker Sheffield Forge-masters has appeared in the dock after a 43 year old worker sustained 70% burns when a pipe containing high pressure, pure oxygen exploded as he examined it. HSE inspector Carol Downes told Health and Safety at Work that a contractor had fitted an inappropriate valve to the pipe earlier that day, which caused the gas to ignite.
