In a backstage corridor at London's Royal Opera House (ROH), a notice board displays quarterly updates on health and safety, categorised for each production. In an environment where adrenaline-filled performers negotiate a darkened stage, it's hard to eliminate every risk: the poster records slips, trips and falls, poor timing during simulated sword fights, and accidental encounters with scenery. "Oedipus was the worst - the set was really hard to navigate," says Dominique Perrissin-Fabert, health and safety manager.
