UK-FRENCH DEALTO END CHANNEL SCALLOP CLASHES

At the end of August French and British fishermen clashed, amid scenes of rocks and flares being thrown, and vessels being rammed.French scallop fishermen are prohibited from fishing in the Baie de Seine region from 15 May until 1 October by French regulations designed to conserve the stocks. But non-French vessels can legally pursue the Baie de Seine fishery at any time outside the French 12-mile limit. This angers French scallop fishermen, who resent seeing UK vessels working on the fishery while they cannot.
