Abundance of insect visitors and nectar sugar production in two cultivars of pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.] flowers at Hisar (Haryana).

Abundance of insect visitors and nectar sugar production in two cultivars of pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.] blossoms were recorded during different weeks of flowering in the crop. Insect visitors were most abundant during second week and least during fifth week of flowering in the crop. Analysis of nectar sugar content of flowers plucked at 9.30 A. M., 5.30 P. M. and 6.00 A. M. (next day) during first, second, third and fourth week of flowering revealed that there was no difference in dry nectar sugars content of flowers plucked at different hours of the day. Likewise no significant difference in the nectar sugars was noticed in the flowers plucked in four different weeks.
