Field studies were conducted in Punjab, India, in 2005, to determine promising pigeon pea genotypes and assess precisely the extent of flower production/shedding and their yield potential. The genotypes differed greatly based on the extent of flower production and grain yield. In general, the genotypes having higher potential for flower production did not show more number of flower shed, indicating differential behaviour of different genotypes in terms of source-sink relation. Sources were found to be limiting in some genotypes. The genotype AL 1492 was found to be best in terms of branches per plant, number of pods per plant, 100-seed weight and grain yield.
