The development potential of land and its utilization are governed by a set of physical, geomorphic, climatic and socio-economic Factors. In the present study, soil site morphological, physical and chemical properties have been considered as the paramount parameters affecting land use planning. The application of LANDSAT TM-FCC data (1 : 50000) were used to evaluate land resources for land capability and irrigability assessment in Sirsa district (Haryana) for agriculture and forestry. U. S. D. A. and A. I. S. & L. U. S. O. systems of land evaluation were followed. Ten soil series were identified in the district and they were classified according to soil taxonomy. Darbi soil series were very good cultivable land without any significant limitations for sustained use under irrigation. Nimla, Saimpal and Phaggu soil series were fairly good land suited for occasional or limited cultivation with moderate to severe limitations for sustained use under irrigation due to adverse soil, topography and drainage conditions. The remaining soil series were covered under marginal to moderate land capability and irrigability classes.
