DEMAND--China on Target for Highest Import Volume Since 2013

Over the next 20 years, coal will continue to form a dominant portion of the electricity generation mixes of many developed and emerging economies. In 2018, global thermal coal consumption is forecast to increase 2% year on year to 6.3Bt, before rising a further 1.6% to 6.4Bt in 2019. AME forecasts export thermal coal demand to increase 5.5% to 1.07Bt in 2018, comfortably outstripping the forecast export supply growth rate of 3.1%. In 2019, export thermal coal demand is expected to remain largely unchanged at 1.07Bt.
