France’s coal-fired thermal coal consumption is forecast to fall 2.7% in 2017 to 8.2Mt. AME estimates thatconsumption peaked in 2013 at 13.2Mt and is forecast to remain relatively stable at 8.3Mt in 2020, before fallingto 7.5Mt by 2030. French GDP growth is expected gain momentum in the short term, rising from 1.1% in 2016 to1.4% in 2017 and to 1.6% in 2018. With GDP one of the key indicators of electricity demand growth, AME’sforecast for electricity generation is for growth of 0.9% in 2017 to 544bn kWh, and rising a further 0.9% in 2018.
