摘要

Carbon monoxide (CO) partially burnt hydro carbon (HC) and nitrogen oxide levels (NO_x) are the prominent constituents from four stroke engine of petrol. Inhalation of these gases by human beings causes health hazards. So, control of these emissions is important. Alternative fuels, which replace available fuels because high levels of pollutants. Alcohols are one of the best substitutes of alternative fuels, as their properties are nearly equal to petrol. Experiments were conducted to determine exhaust emissions of CO, HC and NO_x in a four-stroke, mono block, H_2O cooled, gasoline engine, medium rated power engine at a highrotational speed, attached with chamber with catalyst with blend of petrol (80%) and ethanol (20%), designated as 20E with incorporated with chamber with oxidizer as sponge iron with varied optimum ignition timing (OIT), Data was correlated with base engine (BE) with operation of petrol. NO_x levels were controlled by selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technique. Pollutants showed declination at this operating condition of OIT with chamber of catalyst when compared with recommended ignition timing (RIT). Catalytic converter with air injection significantly reduced pollutants with test fuels of the engine.
