摘要

Over the past years, there has been a continuous development in the field of rolling mills. Constructional solutions and intelligent automation have led to better strip quality and higher productivity of rolling mill machinery. Not the least, a rise of energy costs due to higher prices demands more energy and resource efficiency during operation. In 2007, the worldwide yearly production of flat rolled aluminium products was at approximately 26 million tonnes, from which 15 million tonnes were cold rolled to sheet or foil products. Depending on the final material thickness, the product has to pass the cold rolling mill several times, each pass increasing the product’s total energy consumption. The energy consumption of the cold rolling process is dominated by the stressstrain curve of the alloy in use and the friction in the roll bite; both parameters are unattainable for producers of rolling mills aiming to improve the efficiency of the process.
