Power utilities rebuild stocks

Milder weather reduced Japan’s call on thermal generation in February, enabling the country’s main power utilities to replenish LNG inventories to pre-winter levels by mid-February. The country’s power demand averaged 110GW in February, down by 5.4pc from January, according to Japanese power agency Organisation for Cross-region- al Co-ordination of Transmission Operators (Occto). But this was 0.7pc higher than a year earlier when large parts of the country had unusually mild weather.
