Spain could launch decree to speed up renewables

The Spanish government expects to approve by the end of this year a decree that will simplify and speed up electricity grid access for almost 9GW of renewable projects that must come on line by 2020. Only 80MW of 8.7GW of capacity allocated in three renewables auctions held in 2016-17 has been installed so far, and there are “many people who think it will be difficult” to install even 70pc of the total before the deadline, energy minister Teresa Ribera said today.
