Cable Index surges upwards on higher raw materials prices

The CRU Cable Index saw significant increases in all indices in February driven by a rise in copper, aluminium, steel, PVC and LLDPE compound prices. Raw materials increased on a mixture of good news, strong demand, and supply constraints, depending on the type of product, region and market. For copper cable conductors this led to an increase of 30-31 index points and a rise of 6-7 index points for cables with aluminium conductors. Once again, copper conductor cables saw the highest increase, moving them further apart from their aluminium counterparts.
