GHS adoption expected to 'move swiftly' in all sectors, says South African industry

South Africa's chemicals association expects implementation of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of classification and labelling of chemicals will begin to "move swiftly" across industry sectors in the country, after years of delays. The government had initially hoped to fully implement the GHS by 2008 and published a voluntary standard last year recommending its use. But, minus a few exceptions, implementation has been "very limited", according to Glen Malherbe, head of policy analysis at the Chemical and Allied Industries' Association (CAIA).
