Limit fluoropolymers to essential uses, says international PFAS science panel

Fluoropolymers should be limited to "essential" uses, unless manufacturers and users can eliminate certain emissions from their lifecycles, according to an international group of scientists. The substances are members of the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) class, which is under intense scrutiny by regulators. Industry stakeholders say fluoropolymers are safer than other members of the class, mainly because of their higher molecular weights, and have taken steps to encourage regulators to consider them separately.
