US natural gas withdrawal sets November record

Knoxville, Tennessee—A withdrawal of 162 Bcf from US gas storage inventories last week broke the previous record for November pulls, the Energy Information Administration reported Thursday, propelled by freezing temperatures in much of the country. The pull left 3.614 Tcf in stock for the week ended November 29. The draw outpaced the previous record of a 148-Bcf pull in the week ended November 24, 2000. The withdrawal was also well above consensus expectations between 139-143 Bcf. A year earlier, EIA reported a 62-Bcf withdrawal, while the five-year average is a 41-Bcf draw.
