Hong Kong-State-owned Sinopec is likely to spend between Yuan 16 billion ($2.6 billion) and Yuan 17 billion on refinery upgrades this year to produce cleaner fuels, Vice Chairman Wang Tianpu said March 25. This is nearly half the Yuan 33.8 billion it plans to invest in its refining segment in 2013, and comes on the back of government efforts to combat air pollution, a chronic problem in the country because of rapid industrialization.
