Oil deals relieve KRG financial strains

Erbil— Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government has signed a raft of oil deals with traders that could earn it up to $850 million per month, enabling it to plug a budget hole, but not meet all its ballooning obligations. The terms of the deals, which were signed in June but never fully disclosed, have been confirmed to Platts by officials in the semiautonomous region’s parliament who were briefed in a closed-door meeting on October 7. Tensions with Baghdad continue, including over the KRG’s shipments on behalf of Iraqi state oil marketer SOMO.
