Marathon to Split in Two

Marathon Oil has decided to formally split itself into two independent upstream and downstream businesses, reviving a plan it had scrapped nearly two years ago. "The substantial improvement in the glob- al business and financial environments over the last two years has created the conditions under which we believe it is now appropri- ate to move forward with the formation of two strong independent energy companies," Marathon Chief Executive Clarence Cazalot said in a statement.
