Australia-listed coalbed methane (CBM) producer Dart Energy has inked a joint-venture deal with India's Electrosteel Castings for CBM production from a coal mine license area in Jharkhand, in eastern India. Dart has won exclusive rights to produce gas from the Parbatpur area, which is now owned and operated by Electrosteel, and could ultimately produce 3 Bcf/yr. Dart will operate the joint venture with 30%. It says geological studies have identified 18 coal seams in the mine with high gas content and saturation close to 100%.
