摘要

The interaction of metal ions with purine and pyrimidine nucleobases is a central theme of bioinorganic chemistry. A key objective in this field has been to establish the preferred binding sites for the different bases and these are now generally acknowledged as the endocyclic N~7 and N~1 atoms of N~9-substituted purines and the N~3 atom and the oxygen donors of N~1-blocked pyrimidines, sites which are all involved in hydrogen bonding interactions in the formation of base-pairs, -triples and -quartets.
