摘要

Oxidative DNA damage plays a significant role in mutagenesis and carcinogenesis, in which oxidation products of the DNA bases are formed by reactive oxygen species such as hydroxyl and alkoxyl radicals, and even the superoxide ion. The mutagenic DNa oxidation product 8-hydroxy-2'deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) has been studied intensively in recent years. Since hydroxyl radicals are implicated as the reactive species in oxidative DNA damage, it was of interest to assess the role of hydroxyl radicals in the formation of 8-OHdG.
