The aerospace industry is one of the more glamorous end-markets for metal companies, and as one of the most prominent sectors to embrace additive manufacturing—or 3-D printing—it has again placed itself at the forefront of technological innovation. “3-D printing isn’t a new technology in many ways, but it has become more accessible because of the types of machines, cost of material and integration of new types of software," General Electric Co. global technology director Christine Furstoss told AMM. "People can design their own gadget or parts, even in the consumer market. It has democratized manufacturing and allowed for more engaged, open innovation.”
