Six inches of fresh powder was on the ground, temperatures were hovering near 0°F, and winds were blustery out of the northwest.Time to curl up with a book, you might think. And, yes, I did give this option more than a passing thought. In the end, I just put on another layer of clothes and headed out to my favorite local birding hotspot — a stretch of tidal wetlands in southernNew Jersey known as Turkey Point. I'm not one to meet torment halfway, but I have come to respect the bird-stirring properties of harsh weather.
