California Supreme Court rebuffs appeal of glyphosate cancer listing

The Supreme Court for the US state of California has rejected Monsanto's bid to remove glyphosate herbicide from the state's list of known carcinogens. The Court denied Monsanto's appeal of a lower court ruling that dismissed the company's lawsuit challenging the state's authority to add the widely-used herbicide to the Proposition 65 list of chemicals known to cause cancer. California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) added glyphosate to the Prop 65 list in July 2017, justifying the move because of the 2015 declaration by the UN WHO's International Agency for Cancer Research (IARC) that the herbicide was a "probable human carcinogen".
