EU to renew pyriproxyfen approval

EU member states have voted in favour of renewing the approval of the insecticide/acaricide, pyriproxyfen. Sumitomo Chemical’s European subsidiary, Sumitomo Chemical Agro Europe, applied for renewal based on representative uses on citrus and pome fruit, and on tomatoes and ornamentals in fields and greenhouses. The 15-year renewal will commence on August 1st and replace a previous extension of pyriproxyfen’s approval to December 31st, which was granted because of slow EU renewal procedures. The renewal has set a maximum concentration of 5 g/kg for the impurity, toluene, and this will apply from August 1st 2021.
