Effect of elevation and number of nuts per cluster on nut traits in 'Cakildak' hazelnut

This study examined differences in nut characteristics in 2015 in 'Cakildak' hazelnuts growing in Kabatas district of Ordu province of Turkey. Data were recorded for three elevations (400, 500, and 600 m) and five numbers of nuts cluster1 (1, 2, 3,4,5). Nut weight and dimensions, shell thickness, kernel ratio, kernel weight, kernel dimensions and kernel cavity size were investigated. Nut weight, kernel weight and kernel ratio decreased as the number of nuts cluster1 increased. The nut characteristics also varied at the different elevations. The highest nut weight, kernel weight and kernel ratio were found at 500, 400, and 600 m elevation, respectively. Shell thickness decreased as elevation and the number of nuts cluster1 increased.
