Optimization of an algorithm for creating an apricot DNA fingerprint library

To develop a DNA fingerprint library for distinguishing apricot cultivars, an algorithm was proposed to get the minimum combination of DNA fingerprinting, and the validity of the algorithm was verified using real datasets of simple sequence repeats (SSR) and amplified fragment length polymorphisms (AFLP). The results obtained by the algorithm proved to be accurate and reliable. Compared with manual analysis, computer analysis can complete the whole process in a few seconds. Apricot cultivars (130) could be distinguished by at least four pairs of SSR primers, while only one pair of AFLP primers can distinguish 150 apricot cultivars. AFLP was more suitable for cultivar identification than SSR. Parameters such as percentage of distinguishing cultivarsby primers (5score) and frequency of a primer in primer combinations (F,,) can be used to further analyze the biological significance of the primers.
