Weekly US coal train loadings averaged 81.5 trains/day in the week ended January 24, down 3.8 trains/day from the previous week, data from the Surface Transportation Board showed Friday. Week-on-week loadings dropped for the first time this year in the most recent week, and from the year-ago week loadings declined 14.7 trains/day. Average US coal train loadings per day in the first four weeks of January were 83.2 trains/day. Loadings from the Powder River Basin averaged 46.4 trains/day, down 0.8 train/day from the week before and down 11 trains/day from the year-ago week.
