Bids reported for Central Appalachia export coal Thursday

Bids were reported for export Central Appalachian thermal coal out of Norfolk, Virginia, but no offers or trades were heard in Thursday’s US over-the-counter thermal coal market. A broker reported a bid for 6,000 kcal/kg NAR coal for Q3 loading at $53-$54/mt FOB Norfolk. A bid for Q4 loading was also heard between $53-$54/mt FOB Norfolk. The last export deal out of Norfolk reported to S&P Global Platts was on February 14, which was at $56/mt FOB Norfolk for 80,000 mt for February loading. The coal was a blend of Northern Appalachian and Illinois Basin coal, which had a heat content of 6,600 kcal/kg and sulfur content of 2.5%.
